Hormones Mastermind Update

An update from The Longevity Docs Hormone Mastermind on 3/29/25
1

Hey guys, it is Saturday again. I want to give you an update because the hormone conference that I'm attending from Longevity Docs is unbelievable. And I wanted to give you a quick update because the last three doctors were We're talking very powerful regarding hormones in women's health. First off, we had Dr. DeRosa talk about hormones, especially testosterone,

0:45

and she revealed a very touching story about how when she was a young doctor, she actually went into premature ovarian failure. She gave us quite a touching story about the fact that modern medicine had failed her And it wasn't until she found alternative doctors that she was able to identify her premature ovarian failure and take charge,

1:06

which led to an amazing career in pharmaceuticals where she helped develop some of the hormone replacement therapies used today. Dr. DeRosa's story was unbelievable, and I really want to thank her so much for sharing it. And then I want to talk about Dr. Pointer. So Dr. Pointer went through the WHI data.

1:24

And what was amazing about the WHI data? put simply, is that only 30% of patients were in the 50s. Most of them were older patients. And more important about the Women's Health Initiative data, which is what WHI stands for, is that they used an oral hormone. They used Premarin.

1:48

Now, Premarin has fallen out of favor with those in the bioidentical community like myself. But there are people still using Premarin today. And Premarin and progesterone replacement, using those pharmaceutical-grade replacements led to increased risk of stroke. led to increased risk of clots and led to increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

2:18

And so that is why you have such a horrible push against using hormone replacement. But it turns out other forms of hormone replacement have been well studied. have been well identified, and there is very low risk. What's up, Dr. Johan? So there is very low risk using bioidenticals, using pellets.

2:43

There is big risk using Premarin, and that was studied in the WHI. So if you're using Premarin now, you are not following the rest of the pack, and frankly, you're putting your patients at risk if you're not monitoring. And then I wanna get to probably

3:02

what i would call the granddaddy of all lectures today now there's going to be a battle royale later on that we'll talk about with all of the hormone replacement experts for women's health that are coming up and i'll update you on that but i

3:17

want to talk a little bit about dr felice gersh dr gersh covered in 45 minutes something that would take days. Now, if you don't know Dr. Felice Gersh, she is a landmark in women's health, a landmark touchstone for hormone replacement. And what Dr. Gersh covered was the biology of hormone replacement.

3:50

And in fact, she went through some historical data she reviewed some major studies. She reviewed her philosophy, which is the following. Hormones should never be standing in women because women never have standing hormones. They cycle. And what's amazing about this is she talked over some ancient data regarding Egyptians and reproductive cycles.

4:18

And what she made us realize is that hormones should be rotated with the lunar cycle. And in fact, if you look at the lunar cycle, the moon, the full moon has been considered the most romantic. Well, at that time, that's precisely the time you should be trying to reproduce. And so she said something so very important,

4:42

which is we don't wait for end stage heart failure to treat heart disease. Why are we waiting for end stage hormone failure to treat hormone deficiencies. And I think it was brilliant. So what did she say? She said the following. Menstrual cycles are anti-cancerous. Estrone is pro-inflammatory. That's estrone. Estradiol is anti-inflammatory.

5:09

And they play in a yin and yang. Well, guess what happens when you take oral estrogen? it gets converted to estrone. And when that happens, you have a pro-inflammatory state, and it's very bad for patients. In addition to this, which was mind-blowing, she presented data on the fact that estrogen is not oncogenic.

5:35

Again, we know this with testosterone. We know this with estradiol. What happens with estradiol, which is very important, is it promotes estrogen. breast cancer, breast cell, not breast cancer cell, breast cell adhesiveness. And there have been studies that have shown that a patient's breast cancer outcome is prognostically better if they're actually on estradiol, which is mind blowing,

6:03

right? So estrogen therapy reduces metastases for patients with breast cancer. In addition to that, estradiol does not cause breast cancer, and she gave some really great data on that. But the one thing she hammered, and this goes back to the Women's Health Initiative, Premarin converts to Estrone. Estrone is pro-inflammatory. Estrone is what you need to avoid.

6:32

Okay, there's a balance with estrone relative to estradiol. But in this, if you could take any takeaway at all from this update from this next section, it was the following. Do not take Premarin. Do not take Premarin. Patients who are on hormone replacement need regular follow-ups. And for the first three to four months of hormone optimization,

6:58

Patients should be seen every couple of weeks. You got to measure their levels. You got to dial it in and you have to spend the time. So online chop shops doing this that are not following up patients with their hormone levels and not having check-ins every couple of weeks are doing it completely wrong. Okay.

7:20

That is section two. Now we're going to break for lunch. I'm going to let everyone else eat because I am fasting. So water and coffee, and then I'll give you an update. Yeah, I'm so glad you liked it, Johan. I really do. And I'm going to put this up for the rest of the subscribers.

7:39

So if you're not subscribing, make sure you subscribe to the Longevity Insider with Dr. Murphy. I'll update you again when we wrap up the day. Have a great one. This is Dr. Murphy from the Longevity Docs Hormone Mastermind. Talk to you soon.
